New York: A State of Mind

Recently I travelled to New York (Brooklyn, to be exact) for a family wedding. Fortunately/unfortunately, the trip only furthered my desire to one day reside there in New York.

The playlist for the weekend? Taylor Swift’s new (and totally amazing) album “1989”, which includes the properly fitting song “Welcome to New York”. In the car, in the hotel room, walking on the street- 1989 was blasting. (Thank you, Taylor).

I just can’t get over how much I fit in there. Tons of people, amazing artwork almost everywhere you turn, an infinite amount of things to do, PRETTY LIGHTS. I swear, if I don’t end up in NYC when I move out of my parent’s house, then I’ll end up in L.A. And that’s that.

Personally, if you’ve ever had a fleeting thought about moving to NY for any reason- whether it be to further your music career, find new art canvases, or simply for a change of pace- DO IT. I know I’m not even a resident of the city yet but I know, deep down in my NYC-destined heart, that the pros of living in New York definitely weigh out the cons. Hungry at 2am? There’s a 99.9% chance that a pizza shop is still open. Bored at 2am? There’s a 99.9% chance that a club is still open. Feeling impulsive? There’s a 99.9% chance that a tattoo parlor is STILL. OPEN. (Actually, I don’t know for sure if all these places will be open at 2am so don’t take my word for it).

I’m a weird, eccentric person who thrives on trying out new fashion and/or hair styles,┬ábut where I live currently isn’t a) where I’ll permanently be and b) where I feel most comfortable being myself. But New York, on the other hand, extends the warmest of welcomes to people like me. Or people with rainbow hair, or silver teeth, or an all-leather wardrobe. New York is like a happy orphanage for out-there people who seek refuge to do their thang twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. I think that’s part of why I love it so much. Just the hoards of crazy (in a good way) folk who just want to live life to the fullest. Aka, ME. And who knows? Maybe I’ll fall madly in love with a rainbow-haired, silver-toothed, leather-clad bloke and we’ll cartwheel into the sunset with content grins on our faces.

Much love .x
